We’ve been separated from our friends and had to make do with virtual meets for far too long… For those reasons and so many more, it looks like 2021’s International Friendship Day on 30th July is going to be one huge celebration.

You don’t need us to tell you that the past 18 months have been difficult with lack of social contact all across the world. Whether you started a new job and got to meet your colleagues via video calls, taken part in countless Zoom quizzes or been talking constantly via Facetime, you will have learned to appreciate the true value of a good friend.

There is some confusion over exactly when International Friendship Day originated but it is widely accepted that Hallmark Cards founder Joyce Hall came up with the idea and started promoting it through greetings cards in the early 20th century before Paraguay proposed the date of 30 July in 1958. The date was officially confirmed by the United Nations in April, 2011. Although most countries celebrate on this date, some – including India – mark the occasion on the first Sunday of August.

With social media playing a more and more important role in people’s lives, International Friendship Day has begun to take on increasing importance. A day that encourages people to gather together (it’s fine to do it virtually if you’re still not comfortable in person) and celebrate the spirit of community and companionship regardless of race, gender or religion, there are so many ways to mark the occasion. You could plan something exciting, think back fondly over favourite moments or even give a gift to show your bestie just how much they mean to you.

How about celebrating International Day of Friendship 2021 with Tech21 by treating your closest friends to an AirPods case, cool phone accessories or an iPhone case or Samsung case that complements every aspect of their device.
